There are certain patterns in each of our lives that hold us back when we're trying to make positive changes. If our thoughts are poor, we tend to succumb to insecurity, doubt, feeling overwhelmed, and stressed. We are only as healthy as our mindset, so I've created this list of benefits that come from having a positive mindset.
It's important to know the difference between having a positive mindset and fostering a healthy mindset. That being said, these two ideas work hand-in-hand. With a healthy mindset you can give yourself permission to sometimes feel negative from time to time, that is normal. But you want to learn to process those feelings and let go of your negative thoughts, rather than letting them control your life - this will help with creating space for an overall more positive mindset.
Easier said than done, right? Like anything else, shifting your outlook on things takes practice. Hopefully that practice is made it easier by providing you with these five important benefits that come with cultivating a positive mindset:
1. Calmness:
The ability to calm your mind is vital to a positive mindset. Having your thoughts all over the place can make it hard to see things as they really are. It can cloud your judgement. Calmness comes if you bring awareness to what's happening and what you're thinking.
Understanding when you are overthinking or worrying about insignificant details can go a long way.
There many ways to calm your mind and shift your energy to a more positive one, but the most common is to take in some deep breaths and try to center yourself. I've been doing the "Wim Hof" breaths at my gym and really find it effective in changing my state. If the goal of having a positive mindset comes with feeling more calm and centered - those are awesome outcomes.
2. Courage:
When we procrastinate and avoid taking action, we keep ourselves in one place, without growth or forward progress. Having a positive mindset makes having courage so much more attainable. Courage might sound like taking big, scary leaps into the unknown, but sometimes courage is as small as tackling an easy task that you've been putting off. Taking small steps and actions towards something that scares you is a very courage step forward.
Courage permits us to take action, whatever action is necessary to help us to build confidence, resiliency, and strength inside ourselves, all of which go hand-in-hand with having a positive mindset.
3. Compassion:
Among the greatest contributors to a negative mindset is the lack of empathy towards yourself. If you are constantly comparing yourself to other people, craving perfection, and doubting your abilities, you will only undermine your success. Changing those thoughts to a more positive mindset will bring the compassion that allows you to accept yourself, place healthy expectations, and trust yourself and the journey you are on.
4. Concentration:
When you have a positive mindset, with that comes the concentration, commitment, and dedication to yourself. We live in the age of distractions, which makes it too easy to lose track of what is important. When you focus on what others do instead of your own path, you will become stuck, and less positive. Focus on what matters and make the necessary sacrifices for you to follow through on your goals and really make some progress.
5. Clarity:
Having a clear idea of what's important to you is key when dealing with indecision. Too much of our brain space is used when we are unsure of who we are and what we want. Having a positive mindset will help you become more clear about your priorities, goals, and worth, and will help to remove any of doubts that can give you that undesirable, overwhelming feeling.
